Multi-generational playspace going in at City Hall; many volunteers needed!

The City of Manchester has partnered with the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, and KABOOM! to build a new adventure course, game area, and play equipment off of the lower parking lot of 912 City Rd, which houses City Hall, the Manchester District Library, and the Manchester Senior Center. The equipment was selected by and for Manchester seniors and youth through a survey and “design day” open house in July. The new equipment will be installed Tuesday, August 25, through Thursday, August 27, but at least 90 volunteers are needed!
At least 30 volunteers are needed for each workday, which will run 8:30am to 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 8:30am to 2:30pm on Thursday, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Michael Sessions, Manchester City Manager, explained that work will be available for volunteers of all levels of skill and ability. Youth ages 12 and 13 can volunteer along a parent, and youth ages 14 to 18 can volunteer without a parent present as long as their parent registers them. Youth will not participate in area of active construction. Breakfast, lunch, and water will be provided. Gloves and other safety materials will be provided for the projects that require them. Volunteers may sign up for multiple days. The build will happen rain or shine!
Pat Vailliencourt, Mayor, City of Manchester, stated, “This project represents the very best of Manchester. It’s a place where children can play, older adults can gather, and families of every generation can connect. Because it’s being built by our community, it will always be a reminder of what we can accomplish together.”
