The Manchester Community Schools Board of Education announced late last week that Tom Johns, the district’s current Riverside Intermediate School principal and newly appointed athletic director, has been selected as the next Superintendent of Manchester Community Schools.
This marks an exciting new chapter for our district, and we look forward to the leadership, energy, experience, and commitment Tom will bring to our students, staff, families, and community.
Sandra Wiitala, school board president, stated, “The Board would also like to extend its sincere appreciation to each of our internal candidates who stepped forward to participate in the superintendent selection process. We are fortunate to have talented and dedicated leaders within Manchester Community Schools who are deeply committed to our students and the continued success of our district. Their willingness to pursue this important leadership opportunity speaks to the strength of our organization and their commitment to Manchester.”
She also thanked school staff, families, students, and community members who participated in the hiring process, adding, “Your thoughtful feedback, engagement, and support throughout the interviews and selection process played an important role in helping the Board make this significant decision.”
Whether Johns will continue in either of his current administrative positions in addition to his role as superintendent hasn’t been decided yet. Wiitala concluded, “A formal announcement and additional information regarding the transition will be shared following final approval of the employment contract. We are excited about the future of Manchester Community Schools and look forward to continuing our work together in support of our students and community.”
