From New Amsterdam to New York, discover the history of an orginal colony

Did you know that New York City was once called New Amsterdam? Before the English took control in 1664, the Dutch had established a bustling settlement on Manhattan Island known as New Amsterdam, part of their colony of New Netherland. But how did this Dutch settlement become the New York we know today? Join the Manchester District Library on Thursday, October 1, at 2pm for The 13 Original Colonies: From New Amsterdam to New York!
We’ll uncover fascinating facts about New York’s colonial beginnings, sample delicious foods with connections to the Empire State, and create a page for our 13 Original Colonies scrapbooks. Whether you’ve joined us for previous stops on our colonial journey or are just hopping aboard now, there’s always room for another history enthusiast!
This free program is geared toward teens and adults and will take place in the City Room beneath the Manchester District Library. Come hungry for a little history and a tasty adventure!
