Mercury Broadband LLC commits to completing Bridgewater Township

by Sara Swanson
We reported a couple of weeks ago that U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell organized a meeting on August 25 between Mercury Broadband LLC, Bridgewater Township, and the County in order to try to get answers on the halted broadband rollout in the township.
Bridgewater Township is the last township in the county that is still waiting on broadband under the County’s plan to provide a broadband option to every household. This is because Mercury Broadband LLC, the company contracted to complete the work by the end of 2027, stopped all work in Bridgewater in 2024.
After the meeting, Mercury’s CEO asked for 30 days to allow him time to assess the project to determine if it is still financially feasible for Mercury to continue the build-out in Bridgewater.
Bridgewater Township supervisor, Laurie Fromhart, stated last week that Mercury has indicated they are committed to completing the build out in Bridgewater, however noted that nothing has actually happened yet and they have no clear idea what Mercury’s timeline is.
You may have noticed the fiber installation going in along Austin Road and wondered if that was Mercury starting back up. It isn’t. Fromhart explained that is fiber being installed but by a company called Cablevision Lightpath LLC and it is running through the township for the data center being built in Saline with no availability to residents.
We reached out to Mercury but did not hear back.
