Journey through the 13 colonies continues in November

submitted by Laura Wohlgemuth, Manchester District Library event coordinator
Our journey through the 13 Colonies continues in November as we explore the fascinating history of Delaware and the Carolinas! Both presentations will take place at 2pm on consecutive Thursdays in the City Room and are geared toward teens and adults.
Thursday, November 12 — NEW SWEDEN TO DELAWARE: THE FIRST STATE
Our first November stop takes us to Delaware, a colony with a unique Dutch and Swedish heritage! We’ll discover the fascinating story of New Sweden, established in 1638, and learn how Delaware eventually earned its nickname, “The First State.”
Thursday, November 19 — THE CAROLINAS: TWO COLONIES, ONE BEGINNING
Next, we’ll travel south to explore North and South Carolina! Did you know these two colonies began as one large English colony? We’ll discover how Carolina eventually divided into two separate colonies and explore the differences in their settlements, economies, and ways of life. We will also add a special Thanksgiving twist in which participants are welcome to bring in a North or South Carolina themed food to share for a little Thanksgiving Feast celebration.
Join us as we continue uncovering the people, places, and remarkable stories that shaped America’s original 13 Colonies! For more information on this series, contact Laura at LWohlgemuth@manchesterlibrary.
