Local screening of documentary on Elder Abuse

Still from the movie to be shown on June 16th at 10 am at the Ackerson Building.
Did you know that for the first time in history, Washtenaw County seniors will outnumber school-age children? At the same time that the population is growing, we know that a startling number of elders face abusive conditions. Every year an estimated 5 million, or 1 in 10, older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. And this is only part of the picture; experts believe that for every case of elder abuse or neglect reported, as many as 23.5 cases go unreported.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day serves as a call-to-action for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise awareness about abuse, neglect, exploitation of elders. With this in mind, the Washtenaw County Elder Justice Coalition will present the moving documentary: An Age for Justice: Confronting Elder Abuse in America on Thursday, June 16 at 10 am at the Nellie Ackerson Building, 410 City Road, board room with discussion afterwards. Cindy Schloss, LLMSW, from Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County will facilitate the event. Please call the Community Resource Center ahead of time at 734-428-7722 so they can give an estimate on the number of attendees to the organizers.
Organizers ask that you wear purple to commemorate the day if you have it. If you do not have anything purple to wear, please come anyway.
