Saturday morning flag ceremony at Manchester Area-wide Girl Scout Encampment held at Camp O'the Hills in Brooklyn.

Manchester area Girl Scouts held an encampment last weekend at Camp O’ the Hills in Brooklyn. The encampment was attended by 50 Girl Scouts, including girls and adults, from six troops, ranging from first grade Daisy Girl Scouts to eighth grade Cadette Girl Scouts. This was the first Manchester area-wide encampment since May 2017. The most recent area-wide encampment prior to that one was in 2011.

Encampment activities included morning and evening flag ceremonies, a camp service project, a huge 3-team game of capture the flag, crafts, a hike, communal meals outdoors and of course s’mores and songs around the campfire. The two oldest troops participated in archery.

The encampment was planned, organized and run by Junior Girl Scout troop 40673 and helps them earn their Junior Aide Award.

The camp service projects included raking all the leaves out of the area where maple sap will be boiled to produce maple syrup, and shoveling out the fire pits that will be used.

Girl Scouts also hauled and stacked firewood, stocking up all of the lodges around camp.

Girl Scouts were divided into three multi-aged teams for a massive game of capture the flag.

Outdoor crafts included découpage, friendship bracelets, coloring, and many different activities involving yarn

Another activity was nail and string art!
