The Manchester Mirror is partnering with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce to highlight different Chamber of Commerce members. This week we are spotlighting Manchester Community Schools, the hub of our community!

Currently the smallest district in Washtenaw County, Manchester Community Schools is still expanding, its newest building being Manchester Junior and Senior High School, built in 2004. The front memorial walkway is filled with memorial bricks purchased by community members.

Manchester schools originated in 1867 at the old Union School on the location of the current “Ackerson building,“ at the corner of City Road and Wolverine Street, which pre-dated the current WPA-built school built during the Depression in the 1930s. The first graduation was held in 1871 with six students graduating; the Class of 2022 was the 152nd graduating class for Manchester High School.

Manchester Community Schools is unique due to its small size, with the ability to provide the quality of a private-school education in a public school setting. Manchester Community Schools is helping nurture the future leaders of Manchester and beyond!

The philosophy of the district is to support the community and be a hub for the surrounding area, which is why it has chosen to be part of the Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce.
