Tyler Horky wraps up an impressive basketball career

Former Dutchman Tyler Horky has just wrapped up a basketball career spanning Manchester Jr/Sr High School, Kalamazoo College, and Calvin University, earning a total of 2,507 points. His former coach Mike Ahrens stated, “Throughout his career, Tyler approached the game by maximizing every ounce of his talent by preparing harder, competing fiercer, and never backing down from a challenge.”
Tyler started his basketball career at Manchester High School where he played from 2015 through 2020. He played 68 games, starting for 64 of them and scoring 1,452 points for Manchester, scoring an average of 21.4 per game. During his highest scoring game he scored 58 points, scoring 27 of those in the third quarter. During high school he made 36.4% of the three-point shots he attempted and 79% of the free throws he attempted. He made AP All-state First Team, BCAM All-State First Team, and MaxPrep D-3 State Scoring, as well as BCAM All-Academic his senior year. He was the point leader his senior year, scoring an average of 29.3 points per game. He was in the National Honor Society and earned his high school diploma.
He attended Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 2020 through 2024. He played 75 games, starting for 58 of them and scoring 877 points for Kalamazoo, scoring an average of 11.7 per game. During his highest scoring game he scored 38 points. At Kalamazoo he made 35.7% of the three-point shots he attempted and 74.2% of the free throws he attempted. He made the MIAA Honors Court, was MIAA Player of the Week twice, and was the co-VP of the SAAC Executive Board. He was an honors student and earned a bachelors of science, majoring in business and biology.
Tyler attended Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, last year, playing in the 2024–2025 season. He played 28 games, scoring 178 points for Calvin, scoring an average of 6.4 per game. During his highest scoring game he scored 17 points, which he did twice. At Calvin he made 46.2% of the three-point shots he attempted and 86.7% of the free throws he attempted. He made the MIAA Championship, NCAA D3 Tournament Bid, and had a 20-game win streak. He was an honors student and earned a masters in business.
Ahrens was Tyler’s coach his senior year, which also happened to be the year Ahrens retired. He continued to follow Tyler’s career and even went to games to watch him play at the college level. Ahrens states, “Tyler embodied everything you want in a leader: toughness, intelligence, and a work ethic. He is the type of player all coaches desire and teammates respect.”
