Irish Hills Concerned Citizens (IHCC) will hold our 2nd community meeting about the gravel mine proposed on land adjacent to Watkins Lake State Park on Saturday, February 7, from 10:30am to noon. Attend in person at WellWise Services, 107 Chicago St, Brooklyn, MI, or attend online (reserve a Zoom spot on Eventbrite — search “Irish Hills Concerned Citizens Community Meeting”.)
The first half of the meeting will contain updates on current issues and what IHCC has accomplished so far in terms of identifying and connecting with allies and citizen groups who have faced similar challenges. We will provide concrete action steps that concerned citizens can take now and in the future to stop this mine. The second half of the meeting will be a focused discussion for those interested in getting involved and volunteering with IHCC.
More than 150 residents came out or Zoomed in to our first meeting on January 24. We welcome anyone who is curious, concerned, or interested in helping to shape next steps as the group continues to form. We are especially looking for help with research, community outreach, event support, administrative tasks, communications, and legal or policy review, depending on your interests and availability.
IHCC President Sybil Kolon will also be the featured speaker at the Manchester Voices Indivisible general meeting on Tuesday, February 3, at 6:30pm, at the KJ House in Manchester.
Irish Hills Concerned Citizens (IHCC) was incorporated as a nonprofit in January 2026. Its mission is to educate and activate local citizens about the proposed gravel mining extraction operation adjacent to Watkins Lake State Park. Visit https://ihccinfo.org/ for more information.
