Manchester residents will soon have the opportunity to explore one of America’s most breathtaking national treasures—without ever leaving town.

The Manchester District Library is partnering with Olympic National Park to bring a live, virtual National Park program to the community. The program will feature official National Park Ranger Kathryn Ferguson from the park’s Education Department.

When asked about her work with the National Park Service, Ranger Ferguson shared, “I have been working for the National Park Service since 2016, sharing what makes our parks so unique with students of all ages. I began my most recent role at Olympic National Park two years ago and was quickly enamored by the diverse array of life—from mountaintops to coastlines. One of my favorite ways to enjoy the park is by tide pooling along the coast in search for nudibranchs, or sea slugs!”

During this family-friendly program, Ranger Kathryn will guide attendees through the fascinating tide pools of the Pacific Coast, as well as the lush, biodiverse rainforests and towering mountains that make the Olympic Peninsula so remarkable. Designed for all ages, the program promises an engaging and educational experience for the entire family.

The Olympic National Park Ranger Program will take place at 4:30pm on Monday, March 9, in the City Room at the Manchester District Library.

For anyone who would like to become an official Olympic National Park Junior Ranger, an additional opportunity begins at 3:30pm. Participants can complete a Junior Ranger workbook all about Olympic National Park and earn an impressive Junior Ranger badge. Those who attend the earlier session will also take part in an official Junior Ranger swearing-in ceremony with Ranger Kathryn Ferguson and receive their Olympic National Park Junior Ranger badge in person.

The afternoon will conclude with a live question-and-answer session, giving attendees the chance to interact directly with Ranger Kathryn.

Pre-registration is requested through the Manchester District Library’s Facebook page or website, or by calling the library at 734-428-8045 to reserve a spot. While registration is encouraged, walk-ins are also welcome.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience one of our nation’s most spectacular national parks—brought right here to Manchester.
