The Adult Learners Institute (ALI Michigan) supports life-long learning by offering online and in-person enrichment classes for adults in central southern Michigan. The spring 2026 term continues with five April classes.

If you’re a music lover who’s attended On the Tracks Songwriter Showcase at the Chelsea Depot, you may be familiar with multifaceted artist Annie Capps, who’s a singer, songwriter, and producer. In Conversations with Songwriters, you’ll go behind the scenes as Annie sits down with some of her favorite songwriters to explore their creative processes. This in-person and Zoom class meets on four Tuesdays, April 7, 14, 21, and 28, at Pierce Lake Elementary School in Chelsea.

Culinary artist Tamara El-Khatib’s cooking class last month focused on side dishes, but now’s the time to indulge as you move on to desserts! Whether you’re a novice or experienced cook looking to expand your repertoire, at Tamara’s Tea and Sweet Treats, you’ll find something perfect for serving at a party or enjoying with your family and friends. You’ll get samples to enjoy in class or take home. This in-person class meets on three Thursdays, April 8, 15, and 22, at Heydlauff’s Appliances, and is presented in cooperation with Washtenaw Community College.

Join music devotees Hank Muir and Chris Lenehan in Exploring Musical Theater, a four-session in-person class held on four Thursdays, April 9, 16, 23, and 30, at the Chelsea State Bank (downtown office). You’ll see films of musicals from both stage and screen, learn about the history of each production, and get detailed information about authors, composers, lyricists, and casting. Hank and Chris welcome questions, comments, and discussion.

Join us as Roseangela Lawrence takes us on another virtual tour of Brazil, this time focusing on Rio de Janeiro, from Sugar Loaf to Carnival. You’ll see the dramatic contrasts in this city, where the sea meets the mountains, and the people always seem happy. This in-person and Zoom class will be held on Friday, April 10, at the Dexter Senior Center, and is presented in cooperation with Washtenaw Community College.

We often talk about the effects of modern complex technology but sometimes overlook the influence of older inventions on society. In Technology Through the Ages, neuroscientist Charlie Taylor will lead us from very old through historical to modern technologies, discussing their key insights, timing, and impacts on society. This in-person series of classes will meet on four Wednesdays, April 29, May 6, 13, and 20, at the Chelsea State Bank (downtown office).
