Manchester area residents have two opportunities coming up to shop for native plants at nearby native plant expos!

Native plants play a key role in protecting the environment by providing food and shelter for wildlife, supporting pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects, and helping restore and maintain healthy local ecosystems. They are adapted to Michigan’s soil and climate, requiring less water and maintenance. They increase biodiversity and help protect water quality, reduce erosion and flooding, and restore degraded soil and landscapes.

The River Raisin Watershed Council (RRWC) will host its 2nd Annual Native Plant Sale on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 2pm to 7:30pm at 804 N. Evans Street in Tecumseh. The event is free after 3pm and open to the public, with early bird access available for $5 from 2pm to 3pm.

Designed as a family-friendly community event, the Native Plant Sale will feature kids’ nature activities, community partners, and food trucks, with refreshments available from Musgrove + Company and Pita Delight. Plant vendors include Feral Flora, which serves Washtenaw County and surrounding areas; Windy Rock Farm & Nursery, based in Manchester; and Liv’s Native Nursery, based in Milan.

Community members can learn more about RRWC’s Native Plant Sale and purchase early bird access at riverraisin.org/plant-sale. For general inquiries about RRWC programs, events, or volunteer opportunities, visit riverraisin.org or email admin@riverraisin.org.

The Washtenaw County Conservation District’s (WCCD) 7th annual Native Plant Expo & Marketplace will be a FREE one-stop shop for native plants and conservation education on Saturday, June 6 from 9am to 1pm at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd in Ann Arbor. WCCD has partnered with Midwest Transition to Organic Partnership Program, the City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations, The Davey Tree Expert Company, Huron River Watershed Council, Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum, and Washtenaw County Water Resource Commissioner’s Office to organize this event.

The Expo features native plant sales from Michigan based nurseries; a speakers’ series covering topics like native landscaping and habitat restoration; and a variety of vendors offering services in design, installation, and maintenance of native plant landscapes, pollinator resources, locally made products, and much more! Entry is free for all and includes two free potted milkweed plants — perfect for supporting Monarch butterfly habitat, while supplies last. Hundreds of native plant varieties will be available for purchase including perennials, grasses, shrubs, trees, fruits, and seeds for landscapes of all sizes and growing conditions.
