Manchester families, students, and community members are invited to celebrate an active and festive start to the school day at Manchester’s annual Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 14.

The event will begin at 7am at Chi-Bro Park, where students and families will gather for fall activities with music and bubbles to enjoy. Students will receive a free pumpkin to decorate and take home with them, as well as coupons for free apples, bananas, and ice cream. At 7:30am participants will depart the park together and walk toward Klager Elementary or Riverside Intermediate.

Thanks to 5 Healthy Towns for a generous contribution that is helping to make this event possible.

Several local organizations and businesses are also supporting the event. Fusilier’s farm is providing the pumpkins for students to decorate.  Manchester Market will be on hand to provide hot breakfast options and hot coco, Millies will be selling delicious coffee, while Alber’s Orchard will be offer donuts and cider. Bank Michigan will be handing out water and Manchester District Library and 5 Healthy Towns will be handing out goodies.  The Manchester Fire Department will be on site with a fire truck to delight the kids.

Other local businesses or organizations interested in joining the fun can contact Ann Hinkley Arwin.

Community members living along M-52 are encouraged to join the fun from home by bringing lawn chairs to the roadside and cheering for students and families as they walk by. Organizers hope the community will help make the route feel like a true parade, with neighbors waving, cheering, and celebrating the students.
