The Adult Learners Institute (ALI Michigan) supports life-long learning by offering a diverse array of online and in-person enrichment classes for adults. ALI’s fall 2026 catalogs have been mailed out, and can also be found at various sites in the 5 Healthy Towns area. Following a series of classes in September and October, ALI’s fall 2026 term concludes with three classes in November. Look for ALI again in the spring, when classes will be held in March, April, and May 2027.
Educator Wendy Zeilen returns to ALI with another of her mind-provoking studies in How Leonardo da Vinci Changed the World. Through stories and visuals, she will show how da Vinci’s ideas inspired later pioneers in aviation, engineering, art, medicine, and technology. This class will be held on Thursday, November 5, from 10am to noon, at the Chelsea State Bank (Downtown Office). It is in-person and on Zoom.
What island has been called “America’s Best National Park” by the Wall Street Journal? On Monday, November 9, from 1 to 3pm, at the Chelsea Senior Center, John Daly will present Isle Royale: Michigan’s Little-Known Treasure. He will discuss what the island offers visitors, and how it became part of the U.S. and Michigan. This class is in-person.
Why do we frame a picture or other art object rather than just tack it up on a wall? For answers, come to Picture Framing: A History and Practical Advice on How to Give the Best Results. Join Ann Courtney, former art teacher and framing store owner, on Monday, November 16, from 1 to 3pm, at the Chelsea Senior Center. Ann will discuss the purpose and history of picture framing, as well as share practical considerations when framing artwork. This class is in-person and on Zoom.
