All board members were present at the August 11 board meeting except Mike Fusilier. Also present were fire chief Mike Kouba and planning commissioners Jim Carpenter and Carl Werner and a few other members of the public.

Kouba provided the monthly report for July. There were 105 calls for service in July, the highest number ever.  Twenty-five of those calls were related to the storm in early July. Those calls included six fires, 33 EMS responses, and 17 Hazmat incidents. Regular meetings and trainings were held. The board accepted Kouba’s recommendation to hire Julie Schrader-Curtis as a probationary firefighter. The fire department will be present at the Manchester Community Fair this week and will compete in the extrication contest with other fire departments on Friday at 6:30pm.

Supervisor Ron Milkey reported that zoning administrator Carl Macomber had issued three permits for barns or garages and issued two blight violations.

Milkey reported a resident on Noggles Road had seen a crew doing work near a possible new cell tower. The township has received no application for a cell tower. The township will again host a tire recycling event with Washtenaw County on October 10 from 9am to noon. Irish Hills Gravel will host its second gravel bike race on October 17. The route will include roads in the southern portion of Manchester Township.

Treasurer Kim Thompson reported that work is continuing on an improved township website. Clerk Danell Proctor reported that 331 people had voted in person in the primary election and 514 of 756 absentee ballots were returned.
